The
Snake Handler
17" x 12" x 9", Edition of 30
Bronze Sculpture
"The serpent
is a recurrent figure in religious beliefs, ceremonies and cultures.
From
the snake
charmers of the East, to the fertility ceremonies
of the
Hopi, snake handling is commonly a gesture of faith in a supreme
god-like power and viewed as an act of defiance to the same power.
My exposure to collections of
the Museum of Fine arts in Boston and trips
to Greece, give rise to the Minoan feel of the piece.
This particular
snake charmer came straight out of my dreams — I'm sure
we've all had a few snakes cross our paths more than once in
our lifetimes."
